Points of Pride

  • Student Highlights: The students participate in pretzel drives for "Hearts to Home" and donate food to the "Concord Pantry" to assist families in need within the district. Students also donated shoes for "Sole 4 Souls" to help children throughout the world. Student of the Month is celebrated monthly, class work together to earn Teamwork Tickets, and Works of the Week are awarded each Friday.
  • Parent Involvement: The Home and School Association is extremely active with a budget of over $35,000 every year that goes directly back to the school. The HSA sponsors assemblies, service projects, family/community events, and special occasions such as Field Day, along with many other things. Parents volunteer on a daily basis in all aspects of the school.
  • Parent Conferences: Back to School Nights in September have always had extremely high parent/guardian attendance. Most parents participate in conferences that are scheduled twice yearly and on an as need basis.
  • Teacher Achievement/Community Involvement: Teachers sponsor many after school clubs for students including a Mural Club that has been decorating the walls of our school and a Helping Hands Club that does service projects. Our Literacy Committee sponsors a Family Reading Night and many teachers participate in Home and School events such as Bingo Night and Ice Cream Socials.
  • Technology: Smart Boards and projectors are throughout Concord's classrooms and instructional areas. A computer lab with a Smart Board and projector, 4 laptop carts, and a cart of tablet PCs are shared between grades. Students use many internet-based programs including Odyssey Math. Using a web calendar; teachers share Flip cameras, Student Response Systems, student digital cameras, and Karaoke machines. Students and teachers produce videos on one of the schools iMacs and broadcast the videos on an internal TV network. Teachers attend summer time Tech Academies, and technology related conferences such as Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference.
  • Communication: Weekly announcements are posted on the school's website and emailed to parents. Teachers create weekly and/or monthly classroom newsletters. Updates and important messages are sent to families by email or by a voicemail system.
  • Continuous Improvement: The LEA (League for Educational Advancement) process is used as a means to analyze data, set goals, and solve problems. An annual survey is used to measure progress. Recent surveys show that Concord parents give our school high ratings.
  • Remediation: Reading support is available in all grades. Opportunities exist for additional time on Odyssey Math and for additional reading of 100 Book Challenge. Student assessments are analyzed for extra help with phonics, fluency, comprehension, and fine motor needs. We have an Extended Kindergarten Program and a comprehensive Instructional Support Team.
  • Enrichment: The Four Block Model is used for our framework for Language Arts. This includes the 100 Book Challenge program in all classes. Our teachers differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students. Enrichment boxes are available in all classrooms. There are opportunities for field trips to extend the curriculum.
  • Teacher Development: We have teachers who have become Writing and Literacy Fellows, attended the Governor's Institute on Early Literacy, and attended the district sponsored Math and Science Academies. Teachers have also been recognized as Entrepreneurial Educators by the 3e Institute. All teachers continue to be actively involved in on-going professional development.
